Vinland Meads Logo
Vinland is the name that Leif Erikson, a Viking from Norway, Iceland and Greenland named the countries we call North America in 1000 AD. Over 400 years before Columbus.
When picking a name for our meadery, way in the beginning, I had just visited Heavener Runestone Park in Oklahoma, and thought, what about Vinland, its a Viking term for America. So in our way, Vinland Meads, means, Viking America Mead.
Our Shield Logo, is apart of that Viking Custom, as the red and white was a symbol of Viking Sails, though I am sure there were numerous colors supporting their sails, as they "went a Viking" on England, the Americas, France, and all of Europe.
We added our Name over the the Red and White Shield and that became my logo as a home brewer. We won awards, and became known as a mead that follows the traditions of our ancestors, though a lot of those ancestors sailed from Scotland, the blood mixed with the north is strong around Slains Castle.
Our Logo has added additions over time, we have moved to our lands in Murchison, Texas, with our Hays Manor Spring we sought after for artisan water for our mead.
The Sacral has always been there, as I, Clyde Hays, and my sons in the future, brew mead holy and sacral to all peoples. Heathen, Christian, Buddhist, Shinto, or any domination. If you are looking for a source that is made holy in the ancient traditions of faith and intent, our meads is it. Good Tiding and well being, with a respect for faith is built into our hospitality. We will break bread and honor all that holds honor to our family.
Going Commercial I inquired with the real mind behind Vinland Meads, Mrs. Sarah Hays, if we should grip a new name that encompass more of the history we were trying to pass along. Her immediate response, in her Texas straightforwardness, "why, your name is known, it is a strong name with meaning and history", so instead of a Hays Clan Meadery, or a Mead Hall Meadery, we are
Vinland Meads
Meads of the Americas, with a Viking understanding, culture and history, and a kilt in the right way!
Our Logo, might Change, but the honor and belief we hold in it will always be there... A mead of our ancestors, in the tradition of exploration, as Leif Erikson signified in naming our lands in 1000.ad... Vinland...
